Tracer Bullets in Vermont: A Jan/1965 UFO Report

Along a state highway near Bethel, Windsor, Vermont, a pathologist and a state trooper were driving on 4 January 1965 when shooting out across the treetops just ahead of them, crossing over the roadway, were three strange, fast, objects appearing as if made of some bright glow with a red glow at the tip.

The witnesses were of the highest caliber: the report clear and factual; the answers as vague as possible. The case file comes from a state with few reports in Project Blue Book. Some states - either because of highly classified work in their borders or other reasons - had few sightings. The file is badly faded but does contain the clippings of several newspaper reports and letters between the Pathologist and NICAP. The later seems to be complaining of the tentative answer given them about what had been seen as "bolides" or "meteors." It also indicates they had tried to float a fueling craft but could not find any close to the location.

Oddly, the summary sheet prefacing the 20 some pages of report shows: "OTHER (TRACER BULLETS)".

The file is faded but there appears to be no explanation of how they finally came to that conclusion. Why would tracer bullets able to generate the objects seen by the two witnesses have been fired across a highway and by whom? Issues of safety and fire alone would seem to be major ones and the lack of clear answers is a puzzle.

Also, he described the light seen carried another light "the size of a football".

The objects - three of them - traveled 1, 2, 3, They appeared round and traveled very fast.

There was no sound, no trail, and no EM effects noted.

Tracer bullets - normally from sources consulted - leave a trail. A photo of them in battlefield use in 1939-1940 demonstrates that.

True, by the 1960's such weaponry might have evolved to reduce the trailing aspect BUT the issue of safety of using such in an area where populations might be injured or property damaged is a concern.
