I ran across this witty statement in my research - "A UFO!!! Quick, grab the worst camera we own!" It was an anonymous "funny" posted somewhere but I liked it. It was so painfully true. Who has NOT complained about grainy photos, jerky videos or out of focus 'somethings'??
Recently, I observed one such video posted as a mighty catch of the unknown and unidentified. It had so many issues,,, So here are some tips - again - on capturing useable photos or vids.
1. Do not zoom in. Just let the film or video catch the image. Someone else can put your catch through imaging programs to get clearer images, closer images, etc.
2. Avoid talking over the video unless you can add needed information ("Oh, my God!", "What the f--k!" don't help; also avoid, "My God, its aliens!").
3. Take a deep breath and give the facts: "My name is John Smith. I am in [ your location]. It is [time]. I am looking [north] and there is an object traveling [south].
4. Describe things. Size (the size of a pea, dime, nickel, quarter, golf ball, tennis ball, baseball, grapefruit, basketball HELD AT ARM'S LENGTH).
5. Describe things. Shape (round, square, elliptical, cigar, triangle, irregular (none the others), changing)
6. Describe things. Position in the sky (using the side of your hand stretched horizontal, is it one finger, two fingers, three fingers, 1 hand's width, etc. above the horizon or use this astronomical tool for hand measurements).
7. Describe things. Conditions: It is [rainy, clear, windy, etc.]. Is there a moon? Which direction is the wind coming from?
8. Describe things. Sounds. (whirring, engine sound, buzzing, whooshing, humming, silent.
9. Describe things. Colors (white, silver, red, blue, green, black). Lights (red, yellow/amber, white, blue; red lights; purple lights; white light very bright; pale lights (color?)
10. Then simply be quiet. Submit a report to MUFON (Mutual Unidentified Object Network) at https://www.mufoncms.com/public_report/. There, you can also upload a copy of your photo or video. They have hundreds of Field Investigators across the country who look into reports and sightings.
