Some Reports of 1965 Possible SR-71 Sightings

In December of 1964 the SR-71 "Blackbird" made its first flights. The sightings found in 1965 that seem to suggest a top-secret craft are:

January 14/15, Mammoth, Arizona (or just southeast of it) at 7:08 to 7:22 p.m. (15/02082 to 15/0227). Date of the teletype in the file appears to show a "Jan 14" date all other records show a "Jan 15" date for the event.

The witness, worked for a office or agency associated with a military facility or one that had a guard on duty. He saw the object over the parking lot and attempted to draw the guards attention but the guard expressed his lack of desire at seeing the object. Hynek would later describe him as a man who apparently was very excited and untutored in describing aerial objects, and as aresult this will be labeled "unreliable witness" for a somewhat vague rationale.

The had stepped out a brightly lit building and some bright lights (light like bright light bulbs) caught his attention (he was at 32 degrees 41 min, 45 North and 110 degrees, 41 min. 12 sec West) and the lights appeared motionless over the parking lot.

What he saw over a parking lot were three (3) white lights, lights spaced about 15 feet apart and in an equal sided triangle. He estimated the lights were 15 feet apart. They appeared at an elevation of 45 degrees with a true direction of 70 to 80 degrees when first observed. Object disappeared over the horizon to the northeast.

Project Blue Book letter to Dr. Hynek gives the date of the sighting as January 15, 1965, and asks that, since he will be in the NM and AZ area shortly to check this out. There was no sound. No balloons, dirigibles, blimps or aircraft in the area.

The file is brief and lacks many of the aspects expected in such reports. The fact the original teletype reports (on a faded sheet of paper) 14 January 1965. The form of the numeral supports the 14 Jan date rather than a 15 (as the two numerals are different). The date sent to Dr. Hynek clearly reads Jan 15, 1965.

The image from a July 1967 file from Walwick, NJ could easily be a similar craft seen head on.

There are others. Deeper research indicates that many designed craft were being flown built by major manufacturers who then destroyed (possibly by order) all records related to the test craft. Some companies show large bulk empty spaces in their company records of design and contracts.
