Unidentified Objects In the Skies 1960

The numerous accounts of objects odd in the skies for 1960 bear a startling similarity as to descriptions and maneuvers.

Objects listed as :round to oblong, bright, almost luminous, glowing white objects, often tinged with red or yellow- with a pulsing red light. Smaller lights glowing - alternatively lighting - around the outer edge or under the rim of the object. Objects that moved fast, high, and performed sharp, abrupt turns and stopped to hover for many minutes. Objects often with a searchlight beam that swept the ground as if looking for something. They were seen alone or in groups of 2, 5, or 6. Often in passing or getting too close it influenced the operation of radios, televisions and electrical systems in vehicles. Sizes were star like when at high altitude but closer were repeatedly about 30 feet in diameter with some as large as 75-100 feet across.

Witnesses ranged from police officers, housewives, military personnel, government workers, scientists, shop keepers, mechanics, airline pilots, lighthouse keepers, farmers, students, amateur astronomers, engineers, families, and many more.

They were seen in small towns, large towns, lonely farms, state parks, from the eastern seaboard to the Pacific and from the warm southern border to the crisp northern border.  Naval vessels observed objects at sea and people in foreign places as well.

The "official" explanations ranged from balloons to possible aircraft, from the Planet Venus to the Stars Vega and Altair, from meteors to fireballs.

In the ends - the similarities present evidence of a common object being seen by a widely spread collection of reputable witnesses. A common objects described by witnesses shaped, maneuvering, and traveling at speeds that do not match known vehicles or equipment of the day.
